In October 1998 just after Hurricane Mitch
devastated Honduras and until January 2001,
Pastor Victor Batiz (Avance Misionero
Missionary) served many refugees food &
clothing from funds raised by Hands in
Mission. In 2001, HIM sent a team to build 8
homes in the refugee community for families
that Pastor Victor had chosen from the
homeless inhabitants he had been serving the
past year and a half.

In February, 2003 Hands in Mission returned to
the Refugee Community in Comayagua to
build them a church. This church is served by
Pastor Cledia a former member of a sister
church overseen by Pastor Victor Batiz. As of
2006, at least one member of each family in
the community attends this church with a
thriving congregation of approximately 100.
Hands in Mission intends to return in 2007 to
build a Community hall for a new feeding
program.

In February 2005, Hands in Mission built a
church in San Pedro Sula, served by Pastor
Nehemias Chavarria in the community of Lopez.
Currently, a Kindergarten program has begun
there in hopes of expanding into the community.
Pastor Nehemias also serves as director of
Avance Misionero Honduras.

Other Special Projects: Japon Community San Pedro Sula
In 2005, Hands in Mission visited and worked in the
Japon Refugee Community in which Fanny Chavarria
(wife of Pastor Nehemiah Chavarria) serves. There we helped feed hungry children, gave haircuts to over 100 children and taught Bible School Classes. We fell in love with the people there and were so moved by the immense need that Hands in Mission began its own Child sponsorship program to specifically help this community. (see our Child Sponsorship page)
